: The cheerleaders sold foam fingers for $5 and spirit bracelets for $4. They sold 40 more foam fingers than bracelets, and they earned $965. Write a system of equations to describe the situation and solve this system using at least two different methods and explain each method.
so far this is what i have and i'm not sure if its correct can't get past anything else.
5.00x+4.00y=965
x+y=40 more foam fingers

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The cheerleaders sold foam fingers for $5 and spirit bracelets for $4.

Your first equation is right, although you don't need
the decimals and 0's, just this

5x%2B4y=965

But your second equation is wrong.

Look at this sentence:

>>..They sold 40 more foam fingers than bracelets..<<

Think about it! You have more foam fingers and fewer bracelets

So to get the number of foam fingers, you must add 40 to the
number of bracelets. So the correct equation is

Foam fingers = bracelets + 40

x+=+y+%2B+40

So you have this system:

system%285x%2B4y=965%2C+x=y%2B40%29

Can you solve that by two different methods? If not post
again asking how. Two different methods would be
(1) substitution and (2) elimination.

Solution: x=125, y=85
