Question 175847: I need some help with formulating and solving word equations:
A man walks at a pace of 3 miles per hour. After two hours he stops and rest. Let t be the time after the rest when he continues on his walk. Let d be the total distance traveled since he started. Write an equation linking d and t. Explain...
Can someone please help? It is obvious that he walked a total distance of 6 miles but I befuddled about the total distance since nothing else is there?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
yes, he walked 6 miles and then rested

after the rest, he walked for t hours at 3mph

the total distance (d) is miles before rest PLUS miles after rest

d = 6 + 3t
