You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Carol has a box with a length, width and height of 12 inches. She needs a box that is 3 inches longer, not as high, yet still has almost exactly the same volume.
:
a. What is the volume of the box she has now?
12*12*12 = 1728 cu inches
:
b. What are the dimensions of the new box?
Let h = height of the new box
12 * (12+3) * h = 728
12 * 15 * h = 728
180h = 728
h = 728%2F180
h = 4.04 ~ 4 inches high
New box dimensions: 15 by 12 by 4
:
c. What is the volume of the new box?
15 * 12 * 4 = 720 cu inches
