7(x-1)=-14 remove bracket by multiplying by 7
7x-7=-14 add 7 to both sides
7x=-7 divide both sides by 7

You first need to get rid of the parenthesis by disturbuting the 7
7x-7=-14
Add 7 to both sides to get 7x alone.
7x=-7
Divide both sides by 7
x=-1
