You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Rate multipled by time equals distance.
R%2AT=D
.
.
.
Let's call the distance to your house D.
On your bike your traveled (3/4)D.
You then walked (1/4)D.
Now let's work on time.
"my walking time was twice my biking time"
1.T%5Bw%5D=2%2AT%5Bb%5D
Now we can put it all together and set up both rate equations.
Subscript b is for biking, w is for walking.
R%2AT=D
2.R%5Bb%5D%2AT%5Bb%5D=D%5Bb%5D=%283%2F4%29D
3.R%5Bw%5D%2AT%5Bw%5D=D%5Bw%5D=%281%2F4%29D
If you multiply both sides of equation 2 by 3 it will equal eq. 1,
3.R%5Bw%5D%2AT%5Bw%5D=%281%2F4%29D
3%2AR%5Bw%5D%2AT%5Bw%5D=%283%2F4%29D
2.R%5Bb%5D%2AT%5Bb%5D=%283%2F4%29D=3%2AR%5Bw%5D%2AT%5Bw%5D
2.R%5Bb%5D%2AT%5Bb%5D=3%2AR%5Bw%5D%2AT%5Bw%5D
Now use eq. 1 and substitute for T%5Bw%5D
2.R%5Bb%5D%2AT%5Bb%5D=3%2AR%5Bw%5D%2AT%5Bw%5D
R%5Bb%5D%2AT%5Bb%5D=3%2AR%5Bw%5D%2A%282%2AT%5Bb%5D%29
R%5Bb%5D%2Across%28T%5Bb%5D%29=6%2AR%5Bw%5D%2Across%28T%5Bb%5D%29%29
R%5Bb%5D=6%2AR%5Bw%5D%29
Your biking rate(speed) is 6 times faster than your walking rate(speed).

I had a flat tire after biking 3/4 of the way home. I walked the rest of the way home. If my walking time was twice my biking time, how many times faster is my biking speed than my walking speed?
:
Let 4 = the total distance, then
1 = distance walked
and
3 = distance biked
:
Let t = biking time
then
2t = walking time
:
Let m = number of times biking speed is over the walking time
:
Write a speed equation: speed = dist%2Ftime
:
bike speed = m * walking speed
3%2Ft = m%281%2F2t%29
3%2Ft = %28m%2F2t%29
cross multiply
mt = 3*2t
mt = 6t
divide both sides by t
m = 6 times the walking speed = the biking speed
