You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Sheely's distance:
2%2A%281%2F4%29+=+2%2F4
2%2F4+=+1%2F2mi
---------------
Lynne's distance:
3%2A%281%2F8%29+=+3%2F8mi
Now show both distances as eighth miles so
you can compare them
Sheely:
1%2F2+=+4%2F8mi
Lynne:
3%2F8mi
Difference:
4%2F8+-+3%2F8+=+1%2F8
Sheely ran 1%2F8 mi farther

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
2(1/4)=2/4=1/2
3(1/8)=3/8
:
now in order to compare these we need to make their denominators equal..meaning we need a LCD since 2(4) =8 that is our LCD....so multiply both top and bottom of 1/2 by 4 and you get 4/8. now lets compare
:
4/8 is obviously bigger than 3/8.
:
therefore sheely ran further and she ran further by 1/8 of a mile4%2F8-3%2F8=1%2F8
