You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A number: x

Three times the number: 3x

Three times the number increased by 5: 3x+%2B+5

Nine times the number: 9x

77 decreased by nine times the number: 77+-+9x

So: 3x+%2B+5 is the same as 77+-+9x which means: 3x+%2B+5+=+77+-+9x

Just solve for x

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let n = the number.
3n%2B5+=+77-9n Add 9n to both sides.
12n%2B5+=+77 Subtract 5 from both sides.
12n+=+72 Divide both sides by 12.
highlight%28n+=+6%29
Check:
3n%2B5+=+77-9n Substitute n = 6.
3%286%29%2B5+=+77-9%286%29 Evaluate both sdies.
18%2B5+=+77-54
23+=+23
