You can put this solution on YOUR website! It really helps to know what "per cent" means.
It means "per one hundred"
So when you see the % sign, you can say per 100
which means /100
19.68 % If you read it my way you say
19.68/100
This is not quite there yet. You have to get rid of the decimal point.
If I multiply the top and the bottom of a fraction by the same
number, it doesn't change the value of the fraction. It changes the
way it looks, but it's still the same value.
So I can multiply this fraction by 10/10 and it won't change
(10 x 19.68) / (10 x 100)
This is the same as
196.8 / 1000
I've still got a decimal point, so I multiply by 10/10 again
(10 x 196.8) / (10 x 1000)
This equals
1968 / 10000
The decimal point is gone, so it's a fraction now.
But I need to simplify it
Divide top and bottom by 16 (this doesn't change the fraction either)
1968/16 = 123
10000/16 = 625
so, 123/625 is the answer
And, I just did this division on my calculator, and
123/625 = .1968 as it should
