A woman invested P25,000 in two business ventures, last year she made a profit of 15% from the first venture but lost 5% from the second venture. if the last years income from the two investments was equivalent to a return of 8% of the entire amount invested, how much had she invested in each venture?
:
Let x = amt that made 15%
the total is $25000 so we can say
(25000-x) = amt that lost 5%
:
Profit - loss = 8% of 25000
.15(x) - .05(25000 - x) = .08(25000)
.15x - 1250 + .05x = 2000
.20x = 2000 + 1250
.2x = 3250
x = 3250%2F.2
x = $16,250 amt that made a 15% profit
then
25000 - 16250 = $8.750 amt that lost 5%
:
Check solution in original equation
.15(16250) - .05(8750) = 2000
2437.5 - 437.5 = 2000; confirms our solution
