Question 173796: I am having trouble getting these two. Can someone please help me...please..Thank you..Evaluate the functions for the values of x given as 1, 2, 4, 8, and 16. Describe the differences in the rate at which each function changes with increasing values of x.
3.f(x) = 2x3 + 7x2 - x - 1
5.f(x) = ln x Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! I am having trouble getting these two. Can someone please help me...please..Thank you..Evaluate the functions for the values of x given as 1, 2, 4, 8, and 16. Describe the differences in the rate at which each function changes with increasing values of x.
3.f(x) = 2x^3 + 7x^2 - x - 1
-------------------------------
f(1) = 2+7-1-1 = 7
f(2) = 2*8+7*4-2-1 = 16+28-2-1 =41
f(4) = 2*64 + 7*16 - 4 -1 = 235
etc.
The function is increasing in the interval x=1 to x = 16
==============================================================
5.f(x) = ln x
f(1) = ln (1) = 0
f(2) = ln (2) = 0.653..
f(4) = 1.386...
f(8) = 2.079...
f(16) = 2.773...
-------------------
The functions is slowly increasing over the interval x = 1 to x = 16
