Question 172766: This problem stumped me last night and tried to work it out but have no clue how I arrived to what I "believe" to be the right answer. Can someone help?
Simplify:
(x^4 +10x^3 - 23x^2 - 348x - 540)/ (x + 5)
I believe the answer to be x^3 +5x^2 - 48x - 108. Is that correct, if not, please tell me what I should have done and where I went wrong? Thank you soo much! Answer by solver91311(24713) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! I presume that you used polynomial long division or synthetic division to divide by , which was the correct thing to do. Your quotient with no remainder is the same quotient I got when I performed the long division operation.
Furthermore, when I turned it around and multiplied by I arrived back at . I am 100% confident that the answer we achieved is correct, and so should you be.
