Determine the equation of the parabola, in vertax form, with:
a) vertex (-1,-3) that passes through the point (5,8)
b) vertex (-4,3) and a y-intercept of 7.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Determine the equation of the parabola, in vertax form, with:
a) vertex (-1,-3) that passes through the point (5,8)
Form: (x-h)^2 = 4p(y-k)
h=-1, k=-3, and y=8 when x=5; solve for p
(5+1)^2 = 4p(8+3)
36 = 4p(11)
4p = 36/11

Equation: (x+1)^2 = (9/11)(y+3)

b) vertex (-4,3) and a y-intercept of 7.
intercept is the point (0,7)
(0+4)^2 = 4p(3-7)
16 = 4p(-4)
4p = -4

(x+4)^2 =-4(y-3)
