Question 172088: My son has a problem i dont understand . Can you please help me to understand to give me a clear thought on how to help him {{3n = 21}}
then it ask 1.What does the n means?
Answer by Alan3354(69443) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! {{3n = 21}}
-----------
n is a variable. I don't know why those brackets are there, but
3n = 21 means that 3 times n = 21
So n = 21/3
n = 7
----------
n can be used to mean anything, for example, the number of days in a week, or in a month.
It's just a shortcut, instead of typing "number of days in 6 weeks = 6*7", we can just type n = 6*7 = 42
Any other letter or symbol can be used, x and y are common in algebra.
