You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Plot the graphs of the following functions and graph.
1. f(x)=7x
2. f(x)=4x - 3
3. f(x)=(1/5)x
4. f(x)= log3x
------------------
The 1st 3 are linear (no exponents other than 1), so they're straight lines. To graph a straight, you need only 2 points, then draw the line thru them.
You can substitute y for f(x), and label the graph x and y, this is common.
---------
1. y=7x
Find 2 points.
At x = 0, y = 0, so 1 point is (0,0), the origin.
At x = 1, y = 7, so another point is (1,7)
Draw a line thru those 2 points.
-------------
2. y=4x - 3
At x = 0, y = -3 --> (0,-3) Point 1
At x = 2, y = 5 --> (2,5) Point 2
-------------
3. y=x/5
Do the same thing.
-------------
4. y= log3x
This one is different, it's not a straight line. You have to find several points, then connect them with a smooth continuous line by hand.
If you have Excel, you can use that to find the points. Excel will also draw the graph for you.
In the case of logs, x has to be >0

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Process:
Pick a value for x. Substitute this value for x in your function and do the arithmetic to determine the value of f%28x%29. Then plot the point (x,f%28x%29).

Repeat.

You only have to plot 2 points for each of problems 1, 2, and 3 because they all graph as straight lines -- and two points determine a line. But number 4 is a logarithmic curve. Use your calculator. Since the base is not specified, you must assume base 10 logs.

Advice for selecting values of x for problem 4:

Make sure that 3x%3E0 for all of your selections: The domain of log%28b%2C%28x%29%29 is x%3E0

The graph will intersect the x-axis at x=1%2F3 because log%28b%2C%281%29%29=1 -- always.

Make sure you pick a couple of points such that 3x+%3C+1.

Pick a couple of points such that 3x%3E10

Finally, select several points such that 1+%3C+3x+%3C+10
