Question 171101: I've been having trouble trying to figure out this math problem. I'm really bad at math.
Find three consecutive even numbers such that the sum of the smallest and twice the second is 20 more than the third.
Answer by scott8148(6628) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! consecutive even numbers are two numbers apart -- like 2, 4, 6
let x=smallest, so x+2=second and x+4=third
"the sum of the smallest and twice the second is 20 more than the third" __ x + 2(x+2)=20+x+4
3x+4=x+24
subrtacting x+4 __ 2x=20 __ x=10
the numbers are 10, 12, 14
