Let x = number of ounces of 100% deet. The rest of the 10 ounces, or
10-x = number of ounces of 25% deet.

This results in a total of
10 ounces of 40% deet.

1.00(x) + .25(10-x) = .40(10)
1.00x + 2.5 - .25x = 4.0
.75x + 2.5 = 4.0
.75x = 1.5
x= 1.5/.75 = 150/75 = 2 ounces of 100% deet
10-x = 8 ounces of 40% deet

Check:
1.00(2) + .25(8) = .40(10)
2 + 2= 4
