Question 170178: The questions state to simplify. Please review and help me to understand where I went wrong. Thank you, Jackie
1. 2y + 3 -1/3(6x + 9y) + x
I simplified this way: 1/3(6x)=2x 1/3(9y)= 3y then 2y +3 -2x +3y +x= 2y+3y-2x+x+3= 5y+3x+3
2. 5x + 0(x +y) -3y +14 -3(y -x)
I simpified this way: 0(x)=x 0(y)=y 3(y)=3y 3(x)=3x then 5x+x+y-3y+14-3y-3x= 5x+1x-3x+1y-3y+14=3x-2y+14

You can put this solution on YOUR website! 1. 2y + 3 -1/3(6x + 9y) + x
I simplified this way: 1/3(6x)=2x 1/3(9y)= 3y then 2y +3 -2x +3y +x= 2y+3y-2x+x+3= 5y+3x+3
------------------
2y + 3 -1/3(6x + 9y) + x
= 2y + 3 -2x -3y +x
= 3 -y -x
You had +3y, you overlooked the minus sign
----------------------------
2. 5x + 0(x +y) -3y +14 -3(y -x)
I simpified this way: 0(x)=x 0(y)=y 3(y)=3y 3(x)=3x then 5x+x+y-3y+14-3y-3x= 5x+1x-3x+1y-3y+14=3x-2y+14
----------------------
5x + 0(x +y) -3y +14 -3(y -x)
= 5x -3y +14 -3y +3x
= 8x -6y +14
You added an x and a y, even tho they're multiplied by zero. And, -3*-x = +3x
These things are tedious and error prone.
