in 15 hrs they each do a fraction of the whole job, based on their individual times

let x=Lateesha's time, so x+3=John's time

%2815%2Fx%29%2B%2815%2F%28x%2B3%29%29=1 __ multiplying by x(x+3) __ 15x+45+15x=x^2+3x

subtracting 30x+45 __ 0=x^2-27x-45 __ use quadratic formula to find x
