You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Two boys on bicycles start toward each other at the same time from two towns 70km
apart. The first travels at 12km/h. What is the speed of the other boy if they
meet in 2 1/2 hours?
:
Let s = speed of the other boy
:
When they meet they will have traveled a total of 70 km
:
Write a distance equation: Dist = time * speed
:
1st boy dist + 2nd boy dist = 70 km
2.5(12) + 2.5s = 70
30 + 2.5s = 70
2.5s = 70 - 30
s = 40%2F2.5
s = 16 mph speed of the other boy
;
:
Check solution by finding the total dist
30 + 2.5(16) = 70
