Question 167829: Calculate the number of joules of heat energy required to heat 48.3 g of aluminum from 55.0° to 79.9°C.
_____J?. Answer by 303795(602) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! The energy required to heat a substance is given by the formula
E = m x c x (delta)t where
E = Energy in J
m = Mass in kg
c = specific heat in J kg−1 K−1
and (delta) T is the difference between the two temperatures.
The specific heat of aluminium (according to wikipedia is 897 J kg−1 K−1 so
E = m x c x (delta)t
= 48.3/1000 x 897 x (79.9 - 55.0)
= 48.3/1000 x 897 x 24.9
= 1080 Joules
