You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x%2B2y=4
3x-2y=6
.
in order to substitute, you need to find out what one variable is equal to.
In this case it is easiest to get x by itself with the first equation by subtracting 2y from each side. When you do this, you get:x=-2y%2B4
now you substitute this into the other equation.
3%28-2y%2B4%29-2y=6
.
distribute the 3
-6y%2B12-2y=6
.
combine like terms
-8y%2B12=6
.
subtract 12 from each side
-8y=-6
.
divide each side by -8
y=3%2F4
.
now plug this into the first equation to find out what x is:
x=-2%283%2F4%29%2B4
x=2.5
.
so: x=2.5 ; y=3%2F4
.
Plug these values in to the original equation to check for accuracy.
