2y%281%29%5E2%28y%29=18 Plug in x=1 and z=y


2y%2A%28y%29=18 Square 1 to get 1 and multiply


2y%5E2=18 Multiply


y%5E2=9 Divide both sides by 2


y=3 or y=-3 Take the square root of both sides (don't forget the negative answer)


So when x=1 and z=y, then y=3 or y=-3
