Question 166053: Factoring Trinomials by Grouping:
what is the answer for
4c^2+23c-6
Answer by MRperkins(300) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Is this supposed to =0? or are you evaluating the expression for some value of c?
.
if it =0, then
4c^2+23c-6=0
factors to
(4c-1)(c+6)=0
when either (4c-1)=0 or (c+6)=0 the equation will be true.
so
4c-1=0
add 1 to both sides
4c=1
divide both side by 4
c=.25
and
c+6=0
subtract 6 from both sides
c=-6
c=-6 and c=.25
check
4(-6)^2+23(-6)-6=0
4(36)-138-6=0
144-138-6=0
0=0
4(.25)^2+23(.25)-6=0
4(1/16)+5.75-6=0
.25+5.75-6=0
0=0
so c=.25 and c=-6
.
