Question 165656: Two brothers, Bob and Bill live 450 miles apart. Starting at the same time, they plan to drive until they meet. Bill averages 10 miles per hour faster than Bob who averages 50 mph. How long will it take for them to meet?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Distance(d) equals Rate(r) times Time(t)or d=rt; r=d/t and t=d/r
Let t=time it takes 'till they meet
Distance Bob drives=50t
Distance Bill drives =60t
Now when the above two distances add up to 450 miles, they will have met, so:
50t+60t=450 collect like terms
110t=450 divide each side by 110
t=4.1 hr----------------------------time it takes them to meet
CK
50*4.1+60*4.1=450
204.5+245.5=450
~~~450=450
Hope this helps---ptaylor
