You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The office picnic was off to a bad start.
The original cost was $3.00 a person, but a flu epidemic bought eight cancellations.
So the cost went up to $5.00 a person for the same total cost.
How many people were originally going to attend the party?
------------------------
Cost = 3*N (N = original # of people)
Cost = 5*(N-8) (after 8 cancellations)
3N = 5*(N-8)
3N = 5N - 40
-2N = -40
N = 20 (The info requested)
-----------
Check:
3*20 = $60
5*12 = $60
