You can put this solution on YOUR website!
If two people working together can do a job in 3 hours, how long will it take the slower person to do the same job if one of them is 3 times as fast as the other?
---------------
Together DATA:
time = 3 hr/job ; rate = 1/3 job/hr
--------------------------------
Slower person DATA:
time = 3x hr/job ; rate = 1/3x job/hr
---------------------------------
Faster person DATA:
time = x hr/job ; rate = 1/x job/hr
=======================================
EQUATION:
rate + rate = together rate
1/x + 1/3x = 1/3
3 + 1 = x
x = 4 hrs (time required by the faster person)
3x = 12 hrs ( time required by the slower person)
=======================================
