Question 165046: A square in the coordinate plane has a perimeter of 36 and its lower left vertex at (-1,4). Write an equation for the line through each one of the sides of the square if each side is parallel to one of the two coordinate axes.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The sides of the square are horizontal and vertical
The horizontal side through (-1,4) has the equation
y+=+4 because y is the same no matter
what the x is
The vertical side through (-1,4) has the equation
x+=+-1 because x is the same no matter what the
y is
If the perimeter is 36, each side is 9
9 units horizontally to the right of (-1,4)
is the point (8,4).
The vertical line through this point parallel to
x+=+-1 is x+=+8 (-1+%2B+9)
So far I have 3 of the 4 lines
The last line passes through (-1,13) parallel to
the x-axis. Its equation is y+=+13
The equations of the 4 lines are:
x+=+-1
x+=+8
y+=+4
y+=+13
