Question 164818: write an equation of the line that passes through (1,6) and is parallel to the line x-y=4. Found 2 solutions by Mathtut, jojo14344:Answer by Mathtut(3670) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! since we know that parallel lines have equal slopes lets write the equation in y=mx+b format which would be y=x-4 so we know that the slope is one(1). when you have a point and the slope of a line, you can use the point slope formula which is y-k=m(x-h) where (h,k) is a point on the line.
so we have (1,6) as that point on the line and a slope of 1 so we can write the following equation based on the point slope formula. y-6=1(x-1) simplifying we get y=1x+5 therefore
Answer is y=x+5
You can put this solution on YOUR website! See the graph below for verification: ---> green line passes on point (1,6)---> Parallel to red line
Using point (1,6) , ANSWER ---> Parallel to line >
