Let t = time spent hiking at 4 mph
18- t = time riding back at 20 mph

Distance = RT hiking = RT riding
4t = 20(18-t)
4t = 360 - 20t

Add +20t to each side:
4t + 20t = 360 - 20t + 20t
24t = 360
t= 360/24= 15 hours hiking
18-t = 3 hours riding back

t=15 hours hiking
D=RT = 4t = 4*15 = 60 miles hiking
D=RT = 20(18-t)=20*3 = 60 miles riding back
