4(x – 1) + 6 = 3x + 1 – 2x

4x - 4 + 6 = 3x + 1 - 2x (remove the parentheses)
4x + 2 = x + 1 (combine like terms)
4x + 2 - x = x + 1 - x (subtract x from both sides)
3x + 2 = 1
3x + 2 -2 = 1 - 2 (subtract 2 from both sides)
3x = -1
3x/3 = -1/3 (divide both sides by 3)
x = -1/3
