I know a lot of people today do NOT believe in ABSOLUTE VALUES! They think everything is RELATIVE. I just want to start by saying that I am one who believes in "absolute values"!!

Now to answer your question:
Absolute value of a number means the distance of that number on the numberline away from zero. So graph each of these numbers on a numberline, and tell how far each number is from 0. The answer will NEVER be negative.

1. |-11| = 11
2. |-12| = 12
3. | -9| = 9

absolute value means the positive value of the number or variable or function under the absolute value symbol.... like |x| means positive value of 'x' that is if x is positive ,then it will be +x and if x is negative ,then it is -x so that the answer would be positive.hence
|-11|=11
|-12| = 12
|-9| = 9
