Let x = no. of coach seats
Let y = no. of 1st class
:
Write an equation for each statement:

"an airplane has a total of 152 seats"
x + y = 152
:
"the number of coach-class seats 5 more than six times the number of first-class seats."
x = 5 + 6y
Arrange like the 1st equation
x - 6y = 5
:
using these two equations we have:
x + y = 152
x - 6y = 5
--------------subtraction eliminates x:
0 + 7y = 174
y = 147%2F7
y = 21 ea 1st class seats
