Question 162951: Hi,
I'm trying to figure out how to set up this problem:
Find the measure of an angle such that the difference between the measure of
its supplement and 5 times the measure of the complement is 10 degrees.
This question is on a worksheet that my professor gave us for homework.
I tried setting it up like this:
(180-x) = 5(90-x) - 10
Thank you,

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Read the problem statement carefully:
Let the angle be x:
"...the difference between the measure of its supplement (180-x) and 5 times its complement (-5(90-x)) is (=) 10 degrees", so...
(180-x)-5(90-x) = 10 Simplify.
180-x-450+5x = 10 Combine like-terms.
-270+4x = 10 Add 270 to both sides.
4x = 280 Divide both sides by 4.
x = 70 degrees.
