Question 162795: Brothers Matt and Jeph are leaning a 20-foot ladder against their house. If the ladder reaches 15 feet up the house, how far is the bottom of the ladder from the base of the house? Round to the nearest tenth.
I tried doing
A squared + B squared = C squared and I got 400+225=625 and my answer came out to be 25ft after I found the square root of 625. I just want to know if i'm right. Answer by checkley77(12844) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! x^2+15^2=20^2
x^2+225=400
x^2=400-225
x^2=175
x=sqrt175
x=13.2 feet from the house is the bottom of the ladder.
