Let p= Phil's age now
Let s= Stanley's age now
(1) p+=+s+%2B+24
(2) p+-+4+=+7%2A%28s+-+4%29
Substitute p in (1) for p in (2)
s+%2B+24+-+4+=+7s+-+28
6s+=+20+%2B+28
6s+=+48
s+=+8
p+=+s+%2B+24
p+=+32
Presently, Phil is 32 and Stanley is 8
check:
(2) p+-+4+=+7%2A%28s+-+4%29
32+-+4+=+7%2A%288+-+4%29
28+=+7%2A4
28+=+28
OK
