l*w=(l-2)(w-2)+36
l=3w
3w*w=(3w-2)(w-2)+36
3w^2=3w^2-8w+4+36
0=-8w+40
8w=40
w=40/8
w=5 for the original width
l=3*5=15 is the original length.
Proof:
15*5=(15-2)(5-2)+36
75=13*3+36
75=39+36
75=75
