Let J be the pennies in the first jar. Then J%2B40 are in the second jar.
You are told the total in both jars is 150
Jar1+%2B+Jar2+=+150
J+%2B+%28J%2B40%29+=+150+
2J+%2B+40+=+150
2J+=+110
J+=+55
The first jar has 55 pennies, the second one has 55%2B40 = 95 pennies.
That's not a lot of pennies for two big jars :)
