Seven less than three-fifths times a certain number is equal to 2 more than three-eighth times the number. What is the number?

n = the number
3n/5 - 7 = 3n/8 + 2
Multiply by 40 to get rid of fractions (not necessary, but makes it easier)
24n - 280 = 15n + 80
9n = 360
n = 40
---------
It's a confusing statement. I don't see the point of the problem.
