Let x=the number
x/5= the number divided by 5
(x/5)+3= three is added to the quotient
(x/5)+3-10 after subtracting 10
And we are told this equals 30, so:
(x/5)+3-10=30 multiply each term by 5
x+15-50=150 or
x-35=150 add 35 to each side
x-35+35=150+35 collect like terms
x=185------------------------------the number

37+3=40
40-10=30
30=30
