Question 159949: Function Value from Slope and run: Suppose f is a linear function such that f(3)=7. If the slope of f is 2.7, then what is f(5)?
I have no clue how to set this problem up!
The secons question is: Run from slope and rise: Suppose that f is a linear function with slope -3.4 and that f(1)=6.What value of x gives f(x)=0?
Please help. I am getting so far behind because I don't get this! Thank you. Andie

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Suppose f is a linear function such that f(3)=7. If the slope of f is 2.7, then what is f(5)?
y = 2.7x + b
7 = 2.7*3 + b
b = -1.1
------
EQUATION:
f(x) = 2.7x - 1.1
f(5) = 2.7*5 - 1.1
f(5) = 12.4
=================

The second question is: Run from slope and rise: Suppose that f is a linear function with slope -3.4 and that f(1)=6.
--------
y = -3.4x + b
6 -3.4*1 + b
b = 9.4
EQUATION:
f(x) = -3.4x + 9.4
-----------------
What value of x gives f(x)=0?
0 = -3.4x + 9.4
3.4x = 9.4
x = 2.765
==============
