You can put this solution on YOUR website!
the length of a rectangular field is 10 meters less than four times its width. It cost $1584 to put a fence around the field . If the fencing cost $4.80 per meter, what is the area of the field?
.
Because the total cost of the fence was: $1584
AND, it is $4.80 per meter
The total length of the fence was:
1584/4.80 = 330 meters
.
Let w = width of rectangular field
then from "length of a rectangular field is 10 meters less than four times its width" we get:
4w-10 = length of rectangular field
.
Perimeter is 2(L+W) we now have:
330 = 2(w + 4w-10 )
330 = 2w + 8w - 20
350 = 10w
35 meters = w (width of the field)
.
Length of the field:
4w-10 = 4(35)-10 = 140-10 = 130 meters (length of the field)
.
Area then is:
35*130 = 4550 square meters
