Question 159297: All 28 members in Crestview High School's Ski Club went on a one day ski trip. Members can rent skis for $16 per day or snowboards for $19 per day. The club paid a total of $478 for rental equipment. How many members rented skis and how many rented snowboards?
How do you translate this into equations?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
a= number who rented skis
b= number who rented snowboards
Given:
a+%2B+b+=+28
16a+%2B+19b+=+478
Multiply both sides of the 1st equation by 16 and
subtract it from the 2nd equation
16a+%2B+19b+=+478
-16a+-+16b+=+-448
3b+=+30
b+=+10
a+=+28+-+b
a+=+28+-+10
a+=+18
18 rented skis and 10 rented snowboards
check:
16a+%2B+19b+=+478
16%2A18+%2B+19%2A10+=+478
288+%2B+190+=+478
478+=+478
OK
