You can put this solution on YOUR website!
"average of two numbers is 7" --> %28x%2By%29%2F2=7

"three times one of the numbers is one half the other number" ---> 3x=%281%2F2%29y

3x=%281%2F2%29y Start with the second equation

6x=y Multiply both sides by 2

y=6x Rearrange the equation

%28x%2By%29%2F2=7 Move onto the first equation

%28x%2B6x%29%2F2=7 Plug in y=6x

%287x%29%2F2=7 Add

7x=14 Multiply both sides by 2

x=2 Divide both sides by 7

So the first number is 2 and the second number is y=6%282%29=12

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Let x%5B1%5D-----> 1st number
x%5B2%5D------------> 2nd number
1st condition, average is 7:
%28x%5B1%5D%2Bx%5B2%5D%29%2F2=7
2nd condition: 3 times one number equals half the other,
3x%5B1%5D=%281%2F2%29%28x%5B2%5D%29
In 2nd condition we get by cross multiplying:
%282%29%283%29x%5B1%5D=x%5B2%5D
6x%5B1%5D=x%5B2%5D ------> condition 3, and substitute in condition 1:
%28x%5B1%5D%2Bhighlight%286x%5B1%5D%29%29%2F2=7
7x%5B1%5D=14 ----> cross%287%29x%2Fcross%287%29=cross%2814%292%2Fcross%287%29
x%5B1%5D=2 , 1st number
Via condition3:
x%5B2%5D=6%2A2=12, 2nd number
Check via condition 1:
%282%2B12%29%2F2=7
14%2F2=7
7=7
Check via condition 2:
3%2A2=1%2F2%2812%29
6=6
