Question 159237: Using data from 1996-1998, the annual number of cars sold at a certain dealership can be modeled by the formula y=4x+5,
Where y is the number of cars, in thousands,sold x years after 1996. According to this formula, in which years will the number of cars sold exceed 45 thousand?
Answer by Earlsdon(6294) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! 45,000 means that y = 45, since y = 1,000's of cars.
45 = 4x+5 Subtract 5 from both sides.
40 = 4x Divide both sides by 4.
x = 10 Now add 10 to 1996 to get 2006.
So, in 2006 45,000 cars will be sold, then in 2007 the number of cars sold will exceed 45,000, so the answer is 2007 and later.
