Question 159184: I am taking a Survey of Accounting Concepts class and I haven't taken Algebra in a very long time. I've forgotten how to solve this type of equation. We are working on Contribution Margin Rates. I'm trying to solve for R. Please do all the steps so that I can translate this to other "solve for..." problems. Thanks!
480=0.2R-6000 Answer by nerdybill(7384) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! The idea is to isolate the unknown (R) to one side of the equation -- doesn't matter which side.
.
480=0.2R-6000
Start, by adding 6000 to both sides:
480+6000 = 0.2R-6000+6000
6480 = 0.2R
.
Next divide both sides by .2:
6480/0.2 = 0.2R/0.2
32400 = R
