Question 158854: Hi. I am confused about the correct order of operation for the following problem:
"Evaluate the expression +%287-y%29%2F10x++ WHEN y = 1/7, x = 2/7"
The given answer 10/49, but I argue it is 5/2. Could you help?

Thank you
(Please note that in the original problem, a fraction bar is not used and a division sign is. Also, the "10 times x" above was originally written "10x." Does this make a difference?)

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
by substituting the values of x and y in the equation we get the expression

{7-(1/7) } / {10 . (2/7)}
numerator denominator

Taking the lcm for the numerator, we get (48/7).
When it comes to the denominator, multiplying 10 with (2/7) gives 20/7
So the total expression is (48/7) / (20/7) = (48/7) * (7/20) = 48/20 = 12/5.
So the answer is 12/5
