You can put this solution on YOUR website! 2 planes travel 880 miles towards each other they pass each other half half way after 2 hours. One plane is going 126 mile faster than the other. How fast are both of them going??
--------------------------
1st plane DATA:
time = 2 hrs ; distance = x miles ; rate = d/t = x/2 hrs
-------------------
2nd plane DATA:
time = 2 hrs ; distance = 880-x miles ; rate = d/t = (880-x)/2
------------------------
EQUATION:
1st rate - 2nd rate = 126 mph
x/2 - (880-x)/2 = 126
x - (880-x) = 252
2x = 1132
x = 566 miles (1st plane distance)
--------------
rate of the 1st plane = 566/2 = 283 mph
--------------
rate of the 2nd plane = (880-566)/2 = 314/2 = 157 mph
