Question 157837: My daughter is having trouble solving an equation in her grade 9 science class.
This is the question:A piece of wood has the density of 430kg/m cubed, what is the mass of 50m cubed of this wood?
I do not have a text book it is on a printed piece of paper.
I hope you can help.
She just needs a little direction, I don't want the answer, I would like her to do on her own.
I can't remember how to calculate this.
Thank you for your time.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
well, Density=Mass%2FVolume ----> rho=m%2FV
Since the rho of wood is given = 430kg%2Fm%5E3, also the V of this wood, we'll use Ratio & Proportion:
rho=430%28kg%29%2F1%28m%5E3%29=m%2F50%28m%5E3%29, cross multiply;
430%28kg%29%2A50%28m%5E3%29=m%28m%5E3%29
21500%28kg%29cross%28m%5E3%29%2Fcross%28m%5E3%29=%28m%29cross%28m%5E3%29%2Fcross%28m%5E3%29
m=21500kg ----------------------> mass of 50m%5E3 wood
thank you,
Jojo

---------------
The wood weighs 430kg/m^3. That means 1 m^3 weighs 430 kg (kilograms).
yhere are 50 meters^3 of it, so it weighs 50 times the 430 kg/m.
That's 430*50 = 21,500 kilograms.
-----------------------
That's over 20 tons, so don't get under it.
