You can put this solution on YOUR website! Let x=son's age now
x+6=son's age 6 years from now
Then 6x=father's now
6x+6=fathers age in 6 years
Now we are told that:
6x+6=3(x+6) get rid of parens (distributive law)
6x+6=3x+18 subtract 3x and also 6 from each side
6x+6-6-3x=18-6+3x-3x collect like terms
3x=12
x=4 years old -------------------present age of son
6x=6*4=24 years old---------------present age of father
CK
24+6=3(4+6)
30=30
Hope this helps----ptaylor
You can put this solution on YOUR website! let the present age of son be x
let the present age of father be 6x
after 6 years
son will be x+6
father will be 6x+6
6x+6=3(x+6)
6x+6=3x+18
6x+6-3x-18
3x-12=0
3x=12
x=4
son age 4 father age 24
