The idea is to isolate the unknown (x) to one side of the equation -- doesn't matter which side.

If you started with:
8=x/5
The next step, is to simply multiply both sides by 5:
(8)5=(x/5)5
Resulting in:
40 = x (this is the solution for x)

To check, plug it back into the original equation:
8=x/5
8=40/5
8 = 8 (checks)

8+=+x%2F5 To get the x by itself, you must multiply both sides of the equation by 5, why?, this will "undo" the division by 5 that you see on the x side.
