You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The idea is to isolate the unknown (x) to one side of the equation -- doesn't matter which side.
.
If you started with:
8=x/5
The next step, is to simply multiply both sides by 5:
(8)5=(x/5)5
Resulting in:
40 = x (this is the solution for x)
.
To check, plug it back into the original equation:
8=x/5
8=40/5
8 = 8 (checks)

Solve for x???
8+=+x%2F5 To get the x by itself, you must multiply both sides of the equation by 5, why?, this will "undo" the division by 5 that you see on the x side.
5%2A8+=+highlight%285%29%28x%2Fhighlight%285%29%29 On the left side, do the multiplication (5*8 = 40). On the right side, cancel the 5's.
40+=+x or x+=+40

8=x/5
Multiply both sides of the equation by 5 to get:
40 = x
Which you may write as
x = 40
